Deputy District Attorney Lisa Swift is in charge of the Appellate Unit.
Ms. Swift is a graduate of the University of Scranton and, while there, participated in a Jesuit Exchange Program at Regis College in Denver, Colorado. She graduated from the University of Notre Dame School of Law, where she received invaluable experience in the Legal Aid Office, particularly in legal research and drafting legal documents while representing victims of domestic violence and clients of a legal clinic for the homeless. She also served as a law clerk for different departments of State Government as well as a local law firm. Ms. Swift joined the District Attorney’s Office in 1996.
Ms. Swift oversees appeals in all types of criminal cases in the state appellate courts. She handles all habeas corpus actions filed by state prisoners in the federal district courts, as well as any appeals concerning those federal actions in the Third Circuit Court of Appeals. She is also responsible for any cases, state or federal, involving a petition for writ of certiorari to the United States Supreme Court. Ms. Swift supervises those assistant district attorneys who are assigned to the Appellate Unit on a part-time basis.
