Mariclare Hayes is a graduate of Scranton Preparatory School and Villanova University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in 2001. In 2004, she earned her Juris Doctorate from the Dickinson School of Law where she focused on Trial Advocacy.
Following law school, Ms. Hayes served as law clerk to the Honorable Judge Richard P. Conaboy in the Middle District of Pennsylvania. After practicing civil law in Harrisburg, Ms. Hayes returned to Scranton to join the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office in 2008 where she was assigned to the Special Victims Unit. She has also served as an Adjunct Professor at Marywood University.
Ms. Hayes has primarily focused her career as a prosecutor in the area of sexual abuse, physical abuse and neglect of children. In that capacity, she has served as a member of the Lackawanna County Multidisciplinary Investigative Team and the Lackawanna County Child Death Review Team. In 2016, Ms. Hayes was named Chief Deputy District Attorney where she continues to handle major cases while also overseeing litigation in the office.
Ms. Hayes resides in Scranton with her husband, Attorney Kevin Hayes, and their three children.
