The Northeastern Pennsylvania Auto Theft Task Force was created in February 1997 after Pennsylvania Legislation was passed funding the Unit. Our Unit works closely with all local and state law enforcement agencies in aggressively investigating and prosecuting anyone involved in the crime of auto theft. Our Unit conducts numerous training classes to insure all police departments are updated with regard to any new and innovative ways to steal vehicles. We also conduct VIN etchings in all of our 11 county areas that are used as theft deterrent.
Our Unit consists of one full-time County Detective, 1 full-time Scranton Police Officer, 1 full-time Wilkes-Barre Police Officer and numerous part-time police officers and detectives as well as a strong support staff. Our Unit covers the following counties: Lackawanna, Luzerne, Wyoming, Monroe, Pike, Sullivan, Susquehanna, Bradford, Carbon, Columbia & Wayne Counties.
