The Drug Prosecution Unit is composed of two full-time assistant district attorneys who concentrate exclusively on prosecuting violations of Title 35 Section780-113 et seq, the Drug Device and Cosmetic Act. The unit takes a proactive approach to investigating drug activity throughout Lackawanna County. The District Attorney's Office coordinates the efforts of the local, state and federal agencies in multi-jurisdictional investigations.
The unit is also responsible for the seizure and forfeiture of valuable property and currency used in the commission of drug trafficking. In 2002, the office linked up with the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area
(H.I.D.T.A.), which is a federal agency dedicated to cataloging intelligence on drug dealers and drug activity throughout the nation that is provides vital information and is accessible to all drug investigators.
