Operation Cease-Fire

The Lackawanna County Community District Attorney's Office proposes the hiring of two Gun Violence Prosecutors to enhance the firearm prosecutions in Lackawanna County. Currently in Lackawanna County firearm related crimes and other gun felonies are most often directly related to drug trafficking and are therefore prosecuted by the Drug Prosecution Unit. The District Attorney's Office Drug Crimes Prosecution Unit is staffed by two Assistant District Attorneys each processing over 600 cases per year. The prosecutor to case ratio often makes it difficult to directly focus on lenghty weapons investigations.

In order to enhance the firearm prosections in Lackawanna County the Lackawanna County District Attorney's Office proposed the following three-year strategy. The overall goal of this grant initiative is to enhance firearm prosecution in Lackawanna County over a three-year period.
