Deputy District Attorney
Maryann J. Grippo
(DUI/Homicide by Vehicle Unit)

Maryann Grippo is currently Chief Prosecutor for the DUI/Homicide by Vehicle Unit, a position which she has held since joining the office in 1993. Ms. Grippo was previously named Special Deputy Attorney General for the prosecution of a DUI case in Wyoming County. She has been a consultant with the Pennsylvania DUI Association for a Best Practices Grant awarded by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to four counties nationwide, including Lackawanna. She is a Project Coordinator for Lackawanna County DUI Court and Coordinator of the District Attorney's Annual Prom/Graduation Safety Fair. She is also assigned to the District Attorney's Safe Schools Task Force and Community Prosecution Section. 

Ms. Grippo has served as an adjunct faculty member in the Criminal Justice Department of Lackawanna College in Scranton. She has been a guest lecturer at the University of Scranton on issues involving the criminal justice system, media and the law, and alcohol-related crimes.  She is a frequent presenter on alcohol-related crimes to local school districts. Additionally, she is an instructor for the Intensive Trial Advocacy Program at Widener University School of Law, Harrisburg, and she has instructed in Trial Advocacy for statewide courses through the Pennsylvania District Attorney's Association.

In addition to serving on the Board of Directors of the Lackawanna County Drugged and Drunk Driving Coalition, Ms. Grippo is also Chair of the Lackawanna County DUI Task Force. She is a member of the Pennsylvania District Attorney's Association, the Pennsylvania DUI Association, Pennsylvanians Against Underage Drinking, and a graduate of Leadership Lackawanna. In 1995 Ms. Grippo received the Lackawanna County Alcohol Highway Safety Award, and in 1998 she received the Pennsylvania Governor's Highway Safety Award.

Ms. Grippo received her B.S. in Criminal Justice from the University of Scranton, and graduated cum laude from Widener University School of Law, Harrisburg. While in law school, she served internships with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General, Drug Prosecution Section and the Dauphin County District Attorney's Office.
