The Elder Abuse Unit seeks to protect older Lackawanna County residents, age 60 and above, from abuse and/or being taken advantage of by investigating and prosecuting those who choose to harm them. The Elder Abuse Unit prosecutes all forms of abuse upon older citizens including financial exploitation, physical abuse, and neglect. The prosecutors and detectives in this unit work hand-in-hand with Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging. Other community partners in the protection of older citizens include law enforcement agencies, health care providers, nursing home facilities, and financial institutions.
Prosecutors and detectives in the Elder Abuse Unit have had extensive training in this area and in conjunction with other community agencies have established a county protocol for handling cases of elder abuse. They also provide educational presentations to the community and trainings for our local law enforcement and social service agencies to help ensure the safety and protection of our elderly citizens.
