The Elder Abuse Task Force protects Lackawanna County residents age 60 and older from being abused or taken advantage of. Under the leadership of District Attorney Mark Powell, the Task Force investigates and prosecutes all forms of elder abuse, including scams, financial exploitation, physical abuse and neglect. The unit’s prosecutors and detectives work hand-in-hand with the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging and other community partners, including other law enforcement agencies, health-care providers, nursing home facilities, and financial institutions, to ensure the safety and protection or our older citizens. Prosecutors and detectives in the Elder Abuse Task Force have had extensive training in this area and have established a countywide protocol for handling cases of elder abuse in conjunction with other community agencies. They also provide educational presentations to the community and training for local law enforcement and social service agencies on how to recognize and report elder abuse.

To report a case of elder abuse, contact your local police department or the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging by calling (570) 963-6707.
